Kate has sucessfully gone a year from alcoholism and her husband John stands by her, the family is happy and contented, untill Ester joins them from the adoption centre. What hides behind that demure face? Why does she wear ribbons on her neck and wrist? In fact, too intrigued with Ester to take my eyes off </strong>the picture. Although the first 15-20minutes of the movie moved slow to introduce the characters; the movie was full of suspense after Ester came into the picture. <br />There was a <strong>constant anticipation of the horror to come</strong>. <strong>The mirror in the toilet move, oh they did good. </strong>you though it was gonna scare but it didn't. And so when you presumed the same for the next time it happened,, you were surely surprised. <strong> The movie was well written with an interesting story, the movie was well directed (although limited to a house with white snow all around) This is afterall directed by Jaume Collet-Serra of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Wax_%282005_film%29" target="_blank" title="House of Wax">House of Wax</a> and co-directed by a team which included Leonardo DiCaprio.</strong><br /><br />I've never seen a movie where sign language was extensively used. Max, their daughter couldn't hear well and wore a hearing aid which could have been carefully added to the plot so she couldn't scream when Ester played her little games. And <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isabelle_Fuhrman" target="_blank" title="Isabelle Fuhrman">Isabelle </a>did a great job acting as Esther. <strong>In fact, the kids did most of the work in this movie!</strong><br />I especially like the paintings bit, you'll have to watch it to find out!<br /><br /><strong>Bottomline: It will just please you that you hadn't wasted 120minutes of your life. The movie had a few scares, 3 bloody scenes, unique twist and a scary looking kid.<br />As compared to Jaume Collet-Serra's previous work House of Wax, this pales in comparison, by a tiny bit. just a tiny bit due to the lack of in-your-face gore (remember Paris being chopped?)</strong><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:x-large;">7.5/10</span></strong><br />* Good, not good enough (for horror fans)<br />as i'll like to say....<br /><strong>Elvis Presley - And when her family learns the horrifying story, they will make three strangers curse the day they came to The Last House on the Left.<br />~ synopsis from <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sl2lmFPBGN8>youtube user jkblackout</a><br /><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:large;">Review:</span></strong><br /><strong>Without reading its synopsis and solely based on the genre, </strong>i launched right into the movie.<br />I have to admit<strong> it was starting rather okay - i was greeted with psychotic killers and a mad girl whom kisses her victims</strong>. But after that initial few 20 minutes, it got into <strong>almost half an hour of lengthy kidnapping and constant terror</strong>. Which i felt was too draggy, despite the huge amount of tension and fear which was suppose to reflect the horror of the situation felt by 2 innocent young girls kidnapped by that same group of people (a family of psychos) and <strong>how they were brutally murdered (horrific slashing scene which hurt my gut) and while one was helplessly raped </strong>and how she bravely ran and swam for her life but was gunned and left to die in the waters...complete with rainstorm. The movie was well written - afterall,<strong> it was a remake of the previous film in <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_House_on_the_Left_(1972_film)>1972 of the same title</strong> </a> but it was <strong>the cast that made the movie such a success. You can't add emotions and horror with just knifes and tears.</strong> They weren't very famous (as in everyone knew Bradpitt) actors and actresses but they did an amazing job. You do get affected and can't help feel for the two girls, their family members and be struck with cautioned to leaving your children out and about, or letting strangers into your house after that.<br />You might recognise <a href=http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0668139/>Sarah Paxton</a> whose a young budding actress whom i often mistaken as the actress for Clueless, <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alicia_Silverstone>Alicia Silverstone</a> or the lady in The Notebook, <a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_McAdams>Rachel McAdams</a><br />I can't help it, she looks innocently as Alicia and when she's all dressed up in the movie 'The Shopaholic' she resembled Rachel McAdams.<br />Moral of story? They'll automatically display your alternate advertiser's adverts. e.g Adtoll, Yahoo Publisher, Adsense ads should there be no current programs to run on your page. <strong>That way, if the competitor ad company pays you 10cents but Adbrite offers you more, their ad will show or the latter. You can even specify how much you wish to sell the space for. You earn all the time, both ways.</strong><br /><br /><strong><span style="font-size:large;">Not only</span></strong> do they allow minimum cheque payment amounts of <strong>5USD</strong>, they charge nothing to mail it to you. Of course, through my previous experience with a 5USD cheque on 2nd July; i realized that setting any amounts lesser than 100USD as the minimum payout is a VERY DUMB thing to do - If you're in Asia Pacific or anywhere outside of the USA.<br /><br />Be it Abrite, Adsense, Adtoll, Kontera, Chitika or any USA/European Advertisers. <br />Why? Read on.<br /><br /><strong><span style="color:#006600"><span style="font-size:large;">What every Singaporean Blogger / Editor / Host should know about Adbrite,Adsense Payouts</span></span></strong><br />* <strong>All </strong>Singapore banks have a policy regarding cheques drawn outside of singapore.<br />* For example (using <a href="http://www.rhb.com.sg/bank_charges/bc_foreign-dep_accts.html" title="RBS Bank">RBS Bank</a>) <br />RBS accepts the cheque, mails it over to the US Bank, get them to verify the cheque & stamped, converted to a verified cheque, mails it back to the Singapore bank, charges you a commisson of 1/8% from the Cheque amount, charges you for the postage, charges you for the agent fee, if any. <strong>All these charges are deducted from your dearly awaited hard-earned cheque!!</strong><br />note: charges differ bank to bank. see <A href=http://www.dbs.com.sg/sg/personal/deposit/additionalinfo/Pages/priceguide.pdf>DBS</a><br /><br />That's quite an amount, my friend. especially if you're already getting peanuts.<br /><br />* Yes, the bank could suggest requesting a locally drafted cheque. Oh No,, Adbrite, Adsense and etcera DO NOT provide such requests.<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:large;"><strong><span style="color:#006600">Oh, What should i do then?</span></strong></span><br />1. <strong>Raise your minimum</strong> payment amount. above $100USD. - charges are approx 1/8% + 10-30 handling or higher. <br />Since you're already paying that much, its better to do a bigger sum.<br />2. <strong>Request</strong> <a href="http://www.westernunion.sg/en/how_to_receive.php" target="_blank" title="Western Union"><strong>Western Union</strong></a> if possible - Faster, Quicker, Charges occur e.g. 60USD payout, your fees are approx 10USD. then again, it varies.<br />3. <strong>Request via Paypal </strong><br />(a few advertisers offer payment via paypal e.g. Linkbucks)<br />Paypal charges a nominal fee to withdraw. <br />its FREE for $200.00 SGD or more & <br />its $1.00 SGD for $199.99 SGD or less <br />You escape from SG Bank charges & pay peanuts for your peanuts!<br />4. <strong>Settle for local advertisers</strong> e.g. Nuffnang or Advertlets. the fees are nominal & suitable if your traffic origins are mainly from Singapore <br />5. (let me update this if there are any alternatives for SG bloggers)<br /><br /><br /><span style="font-size:large;">To Summarise, <strong>What You Earn Isn't What You Get.</strong>, Set higher minimum payout to avoid being disappointed. Go for local advertisers, Try Adbrite, try advertisers whom pay thru Paypal.
