Genre: Horror, Thriller, Gore Launched: USA on 13th February 2009 Coming to Singapore: 23rd April 2009 Cast: whomever they are, i'm just happy to see them get slashed. oh yes, and that guy from Supernatural, Jared Tristan Padlecki. (i totally adore that show!)
Overview: There has been up to 12 movie releases of 'Friday the 13th' since its first in 1980, including the 'Jason Vs Freddy' series. Its both a thriller and a hardcore slasher movie. In fact, you don't even need lines. Just place Jason with his hockey mask and place a few boys and girls around Camp Crystal and you got a movie. Its an addictive film. Why? Simply because you walk into the movie anticipating blood and gore. you just had about enough of romantic falling in love, happily ever after movies and you just want a punch (shock therapy) and scare the girl next to you. Personally, i just love how scarily funny it is - the way everyone gets killed one by one but the main leads just never do, till the last part - and despite of its predictability, Jason is one 'Never Say Die' kind of guy. I like that. And even though I'm a lover of romantic comedies, this goes into my favorite slot together with 'Freddy' and the 'Final Destination' series. Well, there's also the 'I Know what you did last summer' but we'll talk about that later.
Review: 8/10
This was better than the 2 series of Freddy vs Jason. or the one where 'Jason goes to Space!' aka Jason X. There are some things that are better off traditionally done, which 3D, CGI can't replace. I like Jason on his own, avenging his mom's death and spying on the kids over at Camp Crystal whom are up to no good (naughty). But I've notice, as the series progress since 1980 - there has been more suggestive content and women without their tops. Overall, it doesn't ruin the film but it does make me wonder if more gore could have been added into the movie instead of seeing couples and their doings. I'm not very interested in wasting movie time for nothing. I paid for Gore & Horror, i want my gore and horror. Out of 90minutes, i got about 80% of my money's worth. The way those kids died in this one was pretty eye-opening. Especially that chinese dude (Aaron Yoo). ouch! right through the eye! Actually, I saw the movie 2 weeks ago... And it took me this long to write a review - simply because it didn't require one. This movie does not disappoint; but its not absolutely terrific. Also, I don't fancy those boobs shots(they were fake btw). Ruins the movie for me. And you know, Jason is a mummy's boy and that got him 'killed' in the end - again. Other than that, its entertaining.
p.s. It was better than Revolutionary Road, better than Race to Witch Mountain (both sucked, couldn't sit through 10minutes of them. One was too confusing-i couldn't believe it won awards, one was too stupid - waste of a talent like The Rock whom could have better the film as a superhero in Watchmen.) Talking about the Watchmen - total ruckus. its more like a movie about the corporate industry with people dress in copycat suits off superman, batman and ironman. oh yes, and that lady whom said my english was bad, full of errors on every sentence (I'm sorry, i wasn't interviewing to be an english teacher)- jason would love to deal with you.
Cyborg Girl / 僕の彼女はサイボーグ / 我的女友是机器人 Boku no kanojo wa saibôgu (2008)
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Futuristic, Family Launched: Nov 2008 Cast:Haruka Ayase as the Cyborg, Keisuke Koide (of Waterboys) as Jiro Kitamura Synopsis: One day, a beautiful cyborg girl appears in front of a dull university student. Even though the cyborg starts to like him, she can’t truly feel emotions, so the boy has no choice but to say goodbye to her inhuman power and ‘violence’. Missing her, he continues his lonely existence. Some time thereafter, a disastrous earthquake hits Tokyo, and the cyborg girl saves his life. In that moment, she starts to have feelings like a real human being
Trailer:
Review: Admittedly, Japanese films have this 'touching' streak. I've not actually watched a jmovie that hasn't affected me into feeling drawn into the characters. always very touching. even The Ring also has a touching streak despite its horror (scary!!)
For the movie Cyborg girl, its no different. It brings futuristic ideas of Cyborgs and time machine together, and the possibility of changing events of today to amend tomorrow. Jiro is a lonely boy whom lost his family and friends, after his town was destroyed by earthquake and from then he's been celebrating his birthday alone and buys gifts for himself. The movie does start off miserable but hypes up when the lovely Keisuke appears dressed in her silver bodysuit which shows off her voluptous figure.
~ Keisuke Koide, Cyborg Girl.
She's a cyborg that comes from the future and the first thing she did was to steal a dress and a pair of shoes. There were some comedy from her - she doesn't understand the reason for money, she loves to eat everything and when cyborgs get drunk.... Cyborg girl returned from the future to celebrate Jiro's birthday and also to protect Jiro. As the movie unravel, we get to know that she was created by Jiro of the future - for the reason to change all that has occurred in the past and to protect Jiro from his impending disaster (another earthquake) Its really true that natural disasters bring devastation.
Some parts of the movie went really slow but it was to create impact on the touching scenes. afterall, this was directed by Jae-young Kwak whom did so for My Sassy Girl, My Girl & I, Windstruck. And you know how those movies went...either of them dies or leaves. It happens for this too..but i'm not going to say more! Just know there will be a Twist!
7/10 - Some comedy moments, some touching times, slow pace but just tolerable for a storyline thats meant to touch. good twist at the end. i like... - Good movie for ladies, not really for the guys. - bonus points for Keisuke. She's so beautiful! Kirei ne! I'm almost inspired to cut my hair short like hers now..hmm. She's a little 'bah bah'(plump) but i think she looks sweeter being 'bah bah'. just like kyoko fukada(Kamikaze Girls, 2004)
Synopsis: Guinevere Pettigrew, a middle-aged London governess, finds herself unfairly dismissed from her job. An attempt to gain new employment catapults her into the glamorous world and dizzying social whirl of an American actress and singer,
Review: Frances does a great job as a scruffy old-fashioned woman of the 50s. she reminded me of Nanny Mcphee. It starts of at a very interesting pace, introducing the plight of Miss Pettigrew and her rigid personality. Then within a few minutes, she's whirled into Delysia's entertainment world (in her bid to get a job). Amy Adams does a good job of her role as an aspiring singer and hoping to branch into Hollywood but also to find the right man to marry - she 3-times 3 men of her life, Michael (Lee Pace) the one whom loves her for whom she is and is her best friend, Nick the manly but male chauvinist older guy and Phil, the young brat of movie business son. Miss Pettigrew sees things that others have forgotten to realise, which is the simple contentment of life and not just materialism and forgetting themselves, betraying, treating love as a game. While trying to keep her new found job as 'Social Secretary' to Delysia, she tries to lie and do things that others want - without sticking to her rigid thinking and in return, experience a world of Fashion, Music, Parties, amidst that upcoming war. And in all the wrong places, she meets a man whom well, would just be the right man to see the gem she is, despite her situation & awful sense of fashion. All these happen in just, One Day.
9/10 Simply said, this movie has a great cast, its well directed, acted and i just love the script. At times its cheerful comedy, at times its moving (heart felt) and at times, it just saddens(when the truth was told)
There isn't anything i dislike about the movie! good script, it does hit on the romance bit. let me quote the following:
Michael: "pure and simple, i want you to marry me and its a one-word conversation, Delysia."
Pettigrew: "might you looking for a social secretary?" Joe: "no.absolutely not. " Joe: i'm looking for you. i've been looking for you all night, and i believe, all of my life. if you'll have me." Pettigrew: *silence* Joe: "a nod of the head will do me fine." Pettigrew nods. Joe: "And i am, in an instant, the happiest man in London" *sorry! i ruined it for you!*

Trailer:
Review: As i haven't read the book with the same title by Sophie Kinsella, I can't tell if it was better than the book or if the book was better than the movie. Overall, Isla Fisher is as bubbly and cheerful -like her previous roles, it wasn't much of a breakthrough but she does the 'stupid blonds joke' kind of roles very well. Admittedly, i didn't enjoy the movie at all. It was an all too predictable plot - silly girl with addiction to shopping, finds a great job with a twist of luck, meets the man of her dreams, silly issues occur and the protagonist sets it straight, live happily ever after with her dysfunctional friends and family and perfect rich husband. boring. yawn. no offense. As i'm not an addict to labels (except E.A), i couldn't appreciate whatever labels they flaunted in the movie. what green scarf? that's ridiculous, for it to be hot proprietary, no matter what the brand. Ah, here's a write up with photos you might wanna check out before watching the movie: Confessions of a Shopaholic Style, at instyle - from Christian Louboutin heels to Hermes Watch, Vivienne Westwood jackets, Louis Vuitton Bustier, Henri Bendel...
ok, i could hear the girls screaming in the movie 'Prada!', 'Dior!' and recognised her Gucci Boston bag & the red Ferragamo but..i've to be a worshipper of the brands to enjoy the movie more. (failing to recognise her Hermes watch, Christian Louboutin shoes..)
4.5/10 - predictable storyline, plot. - non-impressionable movie. - fashion themed but not as fashion savvy as in Devil Wears Prada. - waste of talent in the otherwise good cast. - appeals to teenagers under 13 or gurus in fashion brands to enjoy the 'spot the brand' challenge. - spend the money for tickets by getting the book. I believe its much much more; satisfying. - coming from Jerry Bruckheimer of CSI Miami which i'm a fan of, i'm upset. it could have been so much much better. -Watch it by winning the contest at nuffnang - shopaholic giveaway

If she's not the real true story's protagonist, then who is she?
-above is the thai poster. i prefer this version..
Trailer:
Review: The director was a co-writer for previous film Shutter (thai). and you know how shutter made you pee in your pants at the ending...well, if you did, good for you - cos you might like this one too. if it didn't, you're wierd.
I would say, as compared to shutter, this won't leave you freaked out as you walk out the theatre. It does however, provide scares that are totally unpredictable. i got shocked like 3-4 times. Interestingly, the story has a twist. it reveals the mystery behind the haunting....in order for you to enjoy, i shan't divulge further. please watch it. its has an interesting storyline, with relation to 'real true story' and the way it was film is very nicely done. many reviewers have mentioned of US remaking this like they did for Shutter (us) and many other horror films. finally, I would say this is more of a slasher cum horror, not so much on the haunting.
8/10 Nice scares, nice storyline & twist, first of its kind. the lady is very scary looking. But i don't need to sleep with lights on.
Released: 6th February 2008 Cast: Sarah Thompson, Matt Dallas, Bruce Thomas, Bill Moseley, Kristen Dalton & Monty Bane Genre: Horror Official Site:Babysitter Wanted Related:imdb Synopsis: Angie moves to a new town to attend college and decides to take up babysitting for extra money. all goes well when she meets them before taking up the job. But on her first night, strange phone calls with no one talking, the meal for the kid Sam is all bloody pieces of meat...things just keep getting stranger and disturbingly scary. is it the stalker that's been following her around the one chopping people into pieces or the little boy she's babysitting?
Review: Personally, i think for first time directors (Jonas Barnes & Michael Manasseri), its not bad. its got really eerie sound effects, sudden scares, overall, simple first horror movie based on a good script with some mystery as to whom is the killer / spirit. give credit its sound effects team for they've done a good job. the music definitely freaks me out big time. although some leads to no scares, it works. at the beginning of the movie, i got shocked (wasn't given notice to be prepared by the sound effects) and lost my breath for a while. On the 2nd part, a twist came, but very quickly, the horror resumed. Worked as a babysitter for expat families and boy am i glad i wasn't in her situation..
7/10 Girls: It'll freak you out. Guys: Go freak her out. Family: don't watch it. (unless u'll like the kids to cry) Horror factor: 6 Blood/Gore factor: 3 Suspense factor: 8.5
